Setting Goals And Expectations Without Being Forceful

June 8th, 2008

By Ronnie Nijmeh

Every day we are setting expectations of ourselves and those
around us. It could be expectations that you need to set at
work, at home, or even with friends. We don’t notice how often
we are actually doing this, but we have expectations of everyone
that we come into contact with.

Some people are really great at doing this because they go
about it in a positive manner and they realize that it’s
unreasonable to expect perfection for every little detail.
Others are very forceful about it and they get angry when people
don’t live up to the expectation (a.k.a. Type “A” people).

Having a more positive attitude about this will allow you to
influence people more easily and have them respect you and your
expectations. You can approach setting expectations in every
situation in a positive manner with the help of goal
affirmations.

Using Goal Affirmations to Get More Done

These goal affirmations may or may not be something that you
share with others. We all need to remind ourselves about our
goals, each day, so we can influence and motivate ourselves to
reach and perhaps exceed our goals.

Free positive affirmations help us by simply reminding
ourselves of our goal and how we can reach it with a smile
instead of with a fist.

We have all met those people that set goals for us and were
harsh about it, which, of course, only made us resentful, angry
and non-participative in reaching the goal. We have all, also,
met those people who were very goal oriented but were positive
about it, and they made us all want to jump on and push toward
the goal. This slight difference in mindset is often the
difference between the most successful coaches and the average
coaches. And which would you rather have as your chief motivator
and manager? Which would you rather be?

Quiet Your Mind with Positive Goal Setting Techniques

Using goal setting expectations, you can quiet your mind for
just a few seconds and remind yourself that a positive approach
is always better. When you promote goals, both for yourselves or
others, with an air of excitement instead of hysteria you will
find that people, and even you, are more willing to participate.
Free positive affirmations are something that a lot of people
start using to help them reach their own goals and they soon
find that when they use these goals to motivate themselves they
are better able to motivate others.

If you believe it would help, share your goal affirmations with
those that you are working with. Many people will take to free
positive affirmations and will then share your excitement and
help to motivate others, allowing for the group to reach or
exceed a goal a lot faster and with a better attitude than you
might have ever expected.

Goal affirmations can be a powerful tool in any setting,
whether they are used in personal or business settings, because
they give the individual something to focus on and they allow
everyone to approach the goal with a unified positive attitude
instead of stress and anxiety that often accompanies people in
pursue of their goals.

Plan to Achieve Your Goals

May 5th, 2008

Saying that you are going to have $15 million by retirement is not goal setting. Although it might sound like you have a goal, not developing a realistic path toward fulfilling it will, unfortunately, turn your supposed goal into what it really is a pipe dream. And pipe dreams are rarely realized. Goals, however, when properly set can usually be met. Through learning, and practicing, the step-by-step routine of goal setting, your pipe dreams of today will become tomorrow’s reality.

Goal setting is the term commonly given for the process of setting and working towards specific, defined goals. It is actually pretty simple.  What is difficult, however, is getting people to sit down and actually do it.   When we want to go on a trip, we look at a map and plan our route. If we get lost, we recheck our map. When we want to build a model, we orderly follow the instructions. When the lawn needs cutting, we set aside the time, put on our lawn-cutting clothes, clear the lawn of hoses etc., go to the mower, start it up, and proceed to cut the lawn in a pattern we’ve previously determined is best. When all is done, our human nature wins out: we reach our destination, the model is correctly built, and the lawn gets cut.

By learning the skills of goal setting, developing success habits, and maintaining a goal-setting routine you will have the map to success. A map that will guide you straight to the achievement of all the goals you desire and deserve to achieve. You need to make sure that your goal is something that is in alignment with your values. Sometimes people think they will be happier when they achieve their next promotion, car,  or another house.  When they really think about it, often with the help of a coach, they discover that they have never really thought about what they truly desire. They are coming from a place of “should”, pressure from family, and just a general feeling that this is the next step and is what is expected of them.

Monitor Your Goals Constantly

May 1st, 2008

Whatever your goals are, you should be monitoring them constantly.  There is an old saying: “Measure what you Treasure.”    If you truly treasure your goals and want to acheive them, you should keep a constant measurement of where you stand in relation to their achievement.

In an article from our knowledgebase, Goal As A Positive Statement, Richard Butler says that you should be excited by your goals.  A goal needs to feel you with passion.

If you are not excited and passionate about your goals, they may be difficult to achieve.  If you are not excited and passionate about your goals, they will definately make it difficult for you to focus on monitoring them.

When writing your goals, setup a system for monitoring them so that you are constantly aware of what you must do right now to keep moving toward that goal.  While your monitoring system may vary depending upon the goals that you set for yourself, remember that it is best to keep it simple.  Usually the simplier and easier it is to monitor your goals, they better chance you have to attain them.

Welcome!
